Our organization was founded in the wake of the Lahaina fires, with a mission to strengthen the youth of Maui and aid in their healing process. In response to the challenges faced by the community, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where young people can rebuild their sense of hope and resilience as they participate in outstanding experiences that level-up their vision for the future and their ability to give back to the island.

Our activities are centered around three core pillars: service, education, and art. Through educational programs, we aim to empower children with knowledge and skills that will benefit them in the long term and resources that will encourage them to pursue an after-high-school education of their choice. Art initiatives provide a creative outlet for expression, helping to process trauma and foster a sense of community. Service opportunities will encourage youth to give back, cultivating a sense of purpose and connection to their island.
Importantly, 100% of all donations received will be dedicated to these efforts, ensuring that every contribution directly supports the children of Maui in their journey toward healing and growth, and a future teeming with opportunity.

Founded by
The Banyan Youth Foundation was founded by Benjamin and Nanci Hanks and their children in the aftermath of the devastating Lahaina fires as they witnessed the impact on their friends and loved ones. Dr. Benjamin Hanks is a Pediatric Dentist on Maui with a clinic he started with his talented wife, Nanci. They have five awesome children. This means the vast majority of their time is spent with children and youth all across the island, whom they love. Their commitment to the well-being of Maui’s keiki, coupled with their desire to see them thrive, inspired the creation of this official, IRS-approved 501 (C)(3) nonprofit. Through a family team effort, and the incredible generosity of others, the Hanks family are determined to ensure that the children and youth of Maui have every opportunity to heal, grow, and succeed.
